Step into the heart of the PA Wilds for a traditional upland hunting experience like no other. At Grouse Brook Kennels, we offer fully guided ruffed grouse and woodcock hunts tailored to your preferences, whether you want to hunt over your own bird dog or let one of our seasoned German Shorthaired Pointers lead the way.

Your adventure begins the night before at The King’s Roost Cabin, where we’ll go over the game plan reviewing habitat conditions, discussing dog work, and sharing stories around the fire. This is your chance to get a feel for the terrain and fine-tune strategies for the day ahead.

At first light, we’ll hit the coverts in pursuit of the King of the Uplands. Whether it’s a crisp fall morning with the leaves turning or a snowy late-season hunt, expect fast-flushing birds and challenging shots in classic Pennsylvania grouse country. Midday, we’ll break for lunch, either with a tailgate meal in the field or a warm meal back at The King’s Roost, depending on the weather.

After refueling, we’ll head back into the woods for an afternoon of hunting grouse and migrating woodcock. As the sun starts to fade, we’ll wrap up the day with a final push through prime cover, reflecting on the birds moved, shots taken (and missed), and the unforgettable moments shared with good dogs and good company.

What to Bring:

To ensure you’re ready to cover some ground and take on classic grouse country, you’ll need to bring:

• Boot leather – Be prepared to walk; quality boots are a must.

• Shotgun – 12, 16, or 20 gauge recommended (bring what you shoot best).

• Shells – #7.5 or #8 shot for woodcock, #6 or #7.5 for grouse.

• Upland vest – Preferably with a game pouch and shell loops.

• Brush pants – Expect thick cover, briars, and downed timber.

Everything else, dogs, guiding, meals, and a memorable experience in the PA Wilds, is provided by us.
